2008 - Capital of Culture Cup
Congratulations to the Liverpool Stewards team for retaining their title as Champions. On brief reflection on the tournament we were blessed with some excellent football and exciting games. We saw a very spirited Wigan Athletic team score their first goal ever in the event and against the defending champions no less. They also ware worthy winners of our “Fair Play” award. The most improved side had to be West Bromwich Albion so ably organised by Richard Eades their former goalkeeper. They played some quality football which I am sure will make them serious contenders at Chelsea in 2009. Our congratulations to Bolton Wanderers for reaching their first Final, something of a breakthrough for them. They are another club who could be closing in on Championship glory. The competition is
now becoming stronger by the season.Norwich City and Newcastle United
on the Sunday and counted numerous players who had been with the tournament
since it’s inauguration in 1994, quite amazing the fitness and dedication
of the players.

Our thanks to the lads from the SPL for contributing o much over the weekend too. On a personal note may I congratulate Chris Drummee from Norwich City who has now scored in every Tournament since 1994. Well Done Chris.
